Seaclusion

Those who have read "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier wistfully imagine themselves being at Manderley, running through the rooms, out of the doors, through the garden and into the sea. Seaclusion offers a twenty-first century experience of being able to do just this but in an environment that is simply inspirational in its celebration of the ocean, the sky and modern Jamaican creativity and craftsmanship.

Occupying two and a half acres of oceanfront with a private beach this utterly bewitching villa blends seamlessly into the landscape and manages the remarkable feat of bringing the ocean in from wherever you look. Here, walls have no need to be hung with canvases for your eyes need only the juxtaposition of blues and greens from the sea, sky and plants. By being built right on the ocean, the quality of light is stunning; by day, clear as crystal and come the late afternoon, honeyed and mellow. Needless to say, the sunsets are unforgettable.

Seaclusion is a home that has been built for a family and for families to enjoy. It offers a continuous flow of open space, lofty ceilings that circulate the air thereby rarely needing an air-conditioner to be switched on and yet a configuration of bedrooms that provide privacy as well as space to retreat and hide.

There is something classically Grecian about this home which begins from the moment you approach the tall entrance; white rendering, off-white natural stone flooring and straight lines flow from one open space to another, louvered doors fold back beckoning the breeze in and a refreshing colour scheme of whites, blues, mauves and lilac combine to create an aura that is both timeless, rejuvenating and soothing. All around are subtle details; furniture made by local craftsmen that again is slightly influenced by Athens or perhaps Rome, lampshades in beaten amethyst, silvered coral lamp bases framed in cedar that support square linen shades and bed linen that begs to be slept in. There are seven crisp, white bedrooms to choose from, five of which are in Seaclusion and a further two in Rum Punch, some twenty yards away. The master suite comprises a master bedroom with king size bed, a sitting room both indoor and outdoor and a second bedroom with twin beds thereby making this extremely practical for parents with two young children. The en suite bathrooms are chic in their simplicity with natural stone, wet-room shower, white porcelain bath tub and louvered doors that can be flung back. The master bedroom also has an outdoor shower which is so practical after a morning on the beach or in the sea, as you simply walk across the lawn and rinse off the salt and sand. There is a further bedroom with a king size bed, one with two double beds and one with two twin beds. Each has an en suite bathroom in the exact same style and finish as the master suite and all of the bedrooms have louvered doors that fold back bringing the ocean, pool and gardens in.

You enter Seaclusion into an expansive flow of living space. To the right is a media room, straight ahead a perfect square sitting room from which louvered doors fold back to a covered veranda with a dining area, the table overhung with two white coral chandeliers and behind, a bar and sitting area, the rear wall of which is hung with a mirror which bounces the reflection of the sea around the room. The ceilings are lofty and pitched, the breeze constantly circulates and there is such a lovely feeling of calm and tranquility.

Outside, the infinity pool merges with the sea and is so effective that you expect to see Botticelli sitting behind a canvas painting Aphrodite as she rises from the turquoise waters. The entry to this pool is seamless with the courtyard and therefore perfect for little children who also have the run of the private beach to play on. You can swim in the ocean; snorkel or head out in the kayak provided or should you need a little down time, make for the hammock shaded by a mighty tree.

Just across the lane is Rum Punch and here in a little self-contained oasis that mirrors the architecture and finishes of Seaclusion and bordered with a garden in many variations of green you will find two further bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with two double beds. Each has an en suite bathroom and Rum Punch also has a sitting room, kitchenette and a lovely shaded terrace with swimming pool. This is an added bonus to Seaclusion as it enables larger families to offer separation and extra privacy to those who require it whilst also being able to bring everyone together for meals, entertaining and beach living.

If your idea of serendipity is a waterfront haven where outdoors is in and rooms are unfettered with objects but are rather clean, clear, chic and where the only sounds are the trees rustling in the wind, the lapping of the ocean and the song of birds and tree frogs, then you have found your utopia.
